Charming, pretty, typical and unspoilt, a wide range of adjectives could be used to describe this little village nestling between the tree-covered dune and the bay.
The first thing you’ll discover is the chapel, built in 1885 – an icon on the Peninsula thanks to its oriental-inspired architectural features.
It’s all that remains of the vast domain built by entrepreneur Léon Lesca on his return from Algeria.
The view from in front of the chapel is striking – and there’s free wifi, so don’t hesitate to share your photos!
You’ll love wandering through the narrow streets – not even wide enough for two bikes to pass each other – to soak up the atmosphere of this village, with its rows of colourfully-painted wooden huts and houses, little gardens and carefully-tended flowerbeds.
Views of the bay from between two huts, odd items lying about here and there – a bike, a bucket, a newspaper, dishes, chairs – just signs of everyday life!
The festivities carry on all weekend (the third in August) and there’s entertainment for all ages: a sandcastle-building competition, pétanque tournament, regattas, aperitifs, games, a funfair, concerts and torchlight processions. People often make new friends during these two days when time stands still. In any event, you can’t leave the village without having tasted some oysters in one of the oyster huts. They all have a terrace on the water’s edge, but each features a different personality. Junk shop decor, vintage furniture or a modern-style terrace, each has its own ‘real holiday’ decor.
An administrative centre, Lège is a hub for the whole peninsula.
